HOME > ABOUT US
Alumas Culture Society is a British Columbia based non-profit focused on supporting Indigenous language and cultural continuity.
Our current work centers on developing and testing early-stage learning initiatives, with care given to cultural responsibility, community guidance, and long-term integrity. We approach language revitalization as a process that requires time, collaboration, and respect.
Alumas is presently in a pilot and preparation phase, working toward partnerships and sustainable pathways for future language-learning programs.
Language learners who can communicate short messages on familiar topics with basic vocabulary and limited grammar, using isolated words & phrases (Current pilot focus)
Language learners who can engage in sophisticated and fluent communication, expressing complex ideas, thoughts, and emotions, using a wide range of vocabulary and advanced language structures.
Language learners who can engage in more extended and meaningful communication, expressing personal meaning, handling a variety of topics, and using more complex sentences and language structures.
Language learners who demonstrate near-native proficiency, communicating effectively in various contexts, using idiomatic expressions, and displaying a high degree of accuracy and cultural understanding.
