Pilot Notice

This course is part of an early-stage pilot being developed by Alumas Culture Society to explore how digital tools can responsibly support Kwak’wala language learning.

The material presented here represents a working prototype. Content is currently undergoing revision, cultural review, and curriculum refinement prior to any broader public use. Access during this phase is intended for demonstration, evaluation, and feedback, not final delivery.

What this pilot currently explores:

  • Core Kwak’wala words and phrases for introductory communication
  • Early pronunciation practice using recorded language samples
  • Cultural context integrated into language lessons, where appropriate
  • Interactive exercises designed to test pacing, clarity, and learner experience

No prior language experience is required. This pilot focuses on introductory interactions such as greetings, self-introductions, and early listening practice, with the goal of assessing what works well and what needs improvement.

Why develop a digital learning tool at all?
Digital tools are not a replacement for community-based, land-based, or intergenerational language learning. This pilot explores whether digital tools can support access, practice, and continuity, particularly for learners who are away from home territories or seeking supplementary learning options.
Can anyone enroll or use this course right now?
Access during the pilot phase is limited and contextual. Participation is intended for evaluation and learning design purposes rather than open enrollment or mass use.
Will this course be available publicly in the future?
That decision has not yet been made. Any future public availability would depend on:
